“The Face of Glory” (Life is Unfair and so am I)

January 23rd, 10:00 am

Bridges High School, Carbondale – South Entrance – See MAP

Music – Jimmy Byrne

Child Care and Youth Religious Exploration

There is a dark side to the universe. Two black women get a life sentence for a robbery that netted them $11.00.  An extremely wealthy executive is a hit and run driver and the judge slaps his wrist and sends him on his way.  Life is unfair.  We humans are reflective of the food chain in which we live.  This service will focus on how to live within the food chain which is both the universe and us, because life is unfair and that includes you and me.

“Rhythmic Entrainment” (Does My Drop In The Bucket Count?)

January 9th, 10:00 am

World problems can fill us with despair. Nations choose war over diplomacy. Capitalism threatens to displace democracy. Prejudice runs rampant. It is easy to get discouraged and hide in a comfortable cocoon of oblivion, where we “see no evil”.  But when we give up, we allow the purveyors of evil to win.

The question underneath the drama is: “Does my drop in the bucket make a difference?”  If it does, there is hope.  If not, there is only despair.  The principle of rhythmic entrainment, which governs the entire universe, says that your drop in the bucket not only makes a difference, it could in fact turn the entire culture in a different direction.  That is the principle we will be exploring during this service.

Guest at your table collection will be turned in this Sunday – Please make your checks out to UUSC, and they can be placed in the service collection basket.  January is an Extended Table month, so we will also be collecting contributions for funding that meal.
