4-29-10 Note from TRUU’s President Bill Spence, for the Liberal Light and Website
Dear Members and Friends of Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist (TRUU),
These weeks are crucial and busy in our exciting transition outlined at the special meeting of Members on March 14. At that time, we changed our name, decided to hold all our services in the mid-Valley corridor between Carbondale and Basalt, adopted a new mission statement (see below) and, most important, decided to take steps to become a professionally-led congregation rather than a lay-led fellowship. We need your personal involvement and your financial support to carry us through this transition and to build upon our present momentum.
Our goal is to create a sustainable institution that will serve the region’s children and adults seeking a religiously and spiritually liberal experience. Our new mission says it all “To provide a vibrant and sustainable spiritual institution that is a caring and open-minded community dedicated to the exploration of ethics, values, life choices, and social justice, and is a springboard for personal and societal transformation.” We are in the midst of a pledge campaign for the 2010-2011 congregational year.. THESE NEXT TWO YEARS ARE PROBABLY THE MOST CRUCIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR CONGREGATION…we need you to be as generous as possible so that we can bring good ministers to the Valley twice a month next year. That will help us grow in numbers, and subsequently lessen the individual financial. burdens as we have more members.
If you have not been invited to a dessert discussion or contacted by our pledge team, please call our Campaign Chairs: Cathy and Mike Schermer, at 927-9611. We have a pledge packet for you that contains more information on our goals and our “vision” budget. Please respond as soon as possible…we hope to have our pledge campaign concluded by about May 10 and to present a detailed budget our Annual Meeting on May 23. Please pledge generously.
- Check out our new web site TwoRiversUU.org, thanks to the efforts of Trina Haines. Click on “about” and other links, all of which will be expanded over coming weeks.
- We need help with the preparation of bulletins and advertising. This person or persons will have the opportunity to interact with our ministers, musicians, and Board members. If you’re interested please contact a Board member. Tutorials are available from Sue Edelstein, who has been doing these tasks.
- When the above jobs have been absorbed by others, the Board will appoint Sue Edelstein as the new Treasurer.
Be sure to join us: Our last service of the season will be May 23rd at 10 AM, in Room 2 of the Carbondale Town Hall. Please note that this is INSTEAD of May 9 at WIN Institute. Robert Latham will host “Rap with the Rev” in which you can ask any questions about religion or spirituality and society that you wish, and will include recognition of new members and be followed by our Annual Meeting. A potluck may follow…keep posted!
The entire Board is pleased to give you the opportunity to be a part of our vision for moving us to the next level for Unitarian Universalism in our area.
