Did you see the front page of the Glenwood Springs Post Independent? Well, according to a Western Slope industry association, THE THOMPSON DIVIDE DOES NOT EXIST!
Unfortunately, this is NOT a philosophical discussion on the theory of self-existence. This is a fight for our jobs, our watersheds, and our livelihoods. And rest assured, those livelihoods are very, very real!
This represents a new low for the oil and gas association. And it’s important that we respond accordingly. Can you contribute $5, $25, or even $50 to protect the Thompson Divide?
From ranchers to mountain bikers, and from snowmobilers to small business owners, our communities have come together to conserve Thompson Divide and the livelihoods this land supports. Together, we’ve built the case. We’ve demonstrated why this area is too important to drill. But it’s up to us to keep the effort going.
With all this existentialist rhetoric coming from the industry, we figured it might be time for an overview of the facts.
FACT: Independent economic analysis has shown that the Thompson Divide generates 300 jobs and $30 million each year in real and sustainable economic benefits.
FACT: The Thompson Divide is 220,000 acres of Colorado backcountry situated in the heart of America’s most visited National Forest, the White River.
FACT: The Thompson Divide is home to hunting units that generate over 20,000 big-game licenses each year.
FACT: The Thompson Divide area provides clean water in more than 15 different watersheds in the region. These include direct tributaries to the Crystal, Gunnison, and Colorado rivers, and gold medal trout waters on the Roaring Fork River.
Help us stand up for OUR watersheds, OUR public lands, and OUR local economy! Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution of $5, $25 or whatever you can afford to push back against offensive industry rhetoric.
